Ambient scribe for SUD group sessions
An ambient tool separates speakers in group therapy and drafts both a group note and individual notes for clinician review.
What it does
Captures the group session and produces draft notes per participant that the clinician reviews and signs.
Where the privacy line sits
Every person in the group has a privacy interest. You need consent from each member, a plan if one says no, and Part 2 review for SUD records. Some states require written notice and consent before AI is used on recorded or transcribed sessions.
- PHI: BAA required. Touches protected health information. Needs a Business Associate Agreement if HIPAA applies.
- 42 CFR Part 2. May touch substance use disorder records covered by Part 2. Get counsel's review of consent and redisclosure.
- State AI law. Some states restrict AI in therapy (for example, Illinois). Check every state you serve.
What stays human
Signing notes, deciding what belongs in each chart, and running the group.
